Preparing a Car for Ceramic Coatings: What You Need to Know

Ceramic coatings are a popular way to protect your vehicle. They have proven to be more durable than traditional waxes, they offer protection from harsh weather conditions, and they can restore the paint's original color! To get that level of protection for your car make sure you follow these 8 steps when preparing it for ceramic coatings:

Ceramic Coating Process

STEP ONE: Wash the car thoroughly using a high-quality car wash soap. Make sure to remove all of the dirt, dust, and debris from the surface of the car.

STEP TWO: Decontaminate the car to remove any contaminants and prevent them from scratching the paint. You can do this by clay bar treatment or use a machine polisher with a foam pad and some polish. Make sure you follow all of the manufacturer's instructions for your specific brand/model! These steps should only be performed once, unless the car has been in an accident or is very dirty.

STEP THREE: Use a machine polisher with a foam pad and some polish to remove any light swirls, scratches, etchings left by contaminants on the surface of your vehicle. If you don't have access to one you can use an electric drill to apply pressure, or use a hand-held buffer.

STEP FOUR: Apply a coat of paint sealant to the car's surface. This will help protect the paint from UV rays, bird droppings, and other contaminants.

STEP FIVE: Polish the entire car using a machine polisher with a foam pad and some polish. This will remove any oxidation or swirls that have built up on the surface of the paint and give it a glossy finish.

STEP SIX: Tape off all of the trim, windows, lights, and anything else you don't want to get ceramic coating on. Make sure to use painter's tape so it doesn't leave any residue behind!

STEP SEVEN: Apply the ceramic coating to the car's surface using a foam applicator pad. Work in small sections and Be sure to apply it evenly and make sure you get all of the areas that you want coated!

EIGHT: Apply a second coat of ceramic coating, allow it to dry completely, and then enjoy your beautiful new finish!
